Aerial Intercept – Lucky, Transpac 2025 The Molokai Channel, July 11, 2025 — 6:12 AM Capturing this image required nearly 24 hours of preparation and precise coordination with navigator Stan Honey aboard Lucky, the first boat to finish and winner of the coveted Barn Door Trophy. We’d been tracking her position closely all night, planning to intercept about 15–20 miles out in the Molokai Channel — a notoriously wild stretch where trade winds and seas collide. At dawn, we lifted off just before 6 a.m. in the pouring rain — doors off, low light, and limited visibility. Finding the boat in those conditions is always a challenge, even with the tracker, and timing is everything. As we approached, the clouds lifted and the sun broke over the horizon, illuminating Lucky as she tore through fresh to frightening conditions — big seas, big breeze, and walls of water exploding in her wake. It was a moment of pure exhilaration — where planning, precision, and instinct came together to capture the raw power and beauty of offshore racing.
