Eike Schurr, 26, started sailing at a very young age in the optimist dinghy. Being nine years old he approached his uncle in Southampton onboard of a chase boat where the Volvo Ocean Race (Whitbread 97/98) finished. Fascinated from these impressions he improved his sailing skills during the following years and in addition started to photograph what he loved most – sailing.
After an internship at the America’s Cup Challenger Team Shosholoza in 2007 he learned more about professional sailing campaigns. Getting more involved into the media aspects of the business, while starting digital media studies. This was a great way to combine both the love for sailing and the professional photography and videography skills. During his studies he starts his own business as a freelancer, working at several sailing events and for diverse sailing teams, as well as acquiring corporate tasks. Alongside his advancement in photography he participated in several regattas as a sailor.
Eike was part of the crew and the media crew member, the Nord Stream Race 2016 on the Swan 60 «Spirit of Europe», a 800nm race from St. Petersburg (Russia) to Flensburg (Germany), joining the team for the fourth time.
This year he was part for several live broadcasting productions as well, so he was Drone Operator for the Youth Laser Worlds in Kiel, Germany and for the 52 Super Series World Championships in Menorca this year.
