I was born in Riga and grew up with a camera in my hands. At ten I already knew that light and a decisive moment could hold a whole story. After my studies I moved to Saint Petersburg, and since 2004 photography has been my profession. Sport is where I work most often. On the water I return again and again to the Dragon and the Optimist — the lines of the boats, the wind, the tension before the start, from the first sails of childhood to the precision of a classic keelboat. What I look for, though, is never only the race. The most beautiful thing I know is a person caught in a true emotion: effort, joy, doubt, the second before the finish. That is what I try to keep.
