This photograph was taken on the first day of the Melges 24 World Championship in Trieste. Despite a terrible forecast, the wind was up and the race committee managed to set the course. The image shows the start of the first race with a massive thunderstorm looming behind the fleet. It looks as if the boats aren't just fighting for the lead but are also in a race to flee the approaching danger. This is a special shot for me because it powerfully captures the first World Championship organized by my club in 40 years. After so much event preparation, I was anxious to deliver high-quality images. Somehow, nailing this shot on the very first day gave me the confidence to work more "relaxed" for the rest of the regatta.
